Franchise Development Propelled by More Prospects Leaving Full-Time Jobs
By: Michael Alston for Franchise Insights
February 5, 2025 – Franchise development faces reduced competition from employers for the best candidates. Return-to-work mandates, cost-cutting, and increasing automation by employers are compelling more individuals to conclude that now is the time to buy a franchise and move forward on the path of “being my own boss”, the leading motivator for business ownership. Monthly surveys of buyers actively seeking franchises and businesses for sale have shown an increasing percentage of inquiries from prospects leaving full-time jobs.
In the soon to be released January 2025 Small Business Startup Sentiment Index™ , over 53% say they are leaving full-time jobs, in continuation of an upward trend since the beginning of 2024. This suggests that the hiring splurge and pressure to allow work flexibility and remote work have come to an end, and franchisors will continue to benefit from that trend in 2025.
Over 53% of respondents in the January Sentiment Survey said they were leaving full-time employment to own their own businesses, adding a tailwind to franchise lead generation.
This suggests that the hiring splurge and pressure to allow work flexibility and remote work have ended, and franchise development teams will benefit.
The Small Business Startup Sentiment Index™ is based on a monthly survey of individuals who have recently inquired about businesses or franchises for sale on the Franchise Ventures lead generation platform.
