Southern States Lead in Above-Average Pace of Investment Inquiries
September 3, 2020 – Georgia jumped back ahead of Nevada to lead the nation with the highest adult per capita interest in buying a franchise in Q2 2020, reclaiming the No. 1 rank that it held in the full year of 2019 according to the latest data from The Franchise Interest IndexTM.
The Franchise Insights Franchise Interest IndexTM reveals the relative interest of entrepreneurs making investment inquiries by indexing proprietary data and state-by-state population figures. An index of 100 indicates average interest, while an index of 120 represents 20% higher-than-average interest. Proprietary data is drawn from the FranchiseVentures flow of franchise-investment inquiries in the United States.
- Three of the top-five ranked states were large Southern population centers, with more than 10 million adults each. Georgia was No. 1 with nearly twice the average per-capita interest in franchising, logging a Franchise Interest IndexTM score of 195 for Q2 2020. Florida held steady in the No. 3 position with a score of 163, and Texas moved up from No. 7 to No. 5, with an index of 134.
- Smaller states with less than 5 million adults claimed the other spots in the top five. Nevada moved back to No. 2 in the Q2, down from No. 1 in Q1, with its per-capita investment inquiries running 67% above average. And Louisiana moved to No. 4 with an index of 155, up from No. 10 in Q1, while Mississippi tied Texas for No. 5 with a score of 134.
- Other Southern states with above-average entrepreneurial interest were South Carolina at No. 7, Alabama at No. 9, and North Carolina at No. 12. All in all, Southern states claimed 8 of the 14 above-average rankings.
